Terms and Conditions

Last updated: July 23, 2026 · Version 1.0.0-beta

1. About Mindscape

Mindscape is a free, anonymous peer-support platform where students can connect with trained student volunteers for supportive conversations. Mindscape is currently in public beta and is operated as a community project. By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to these Terms and Conditions.

2. Peer Support Only, Not Therapy or Medical Care

Mindscape provides peer support only. Mindscape is not:

  • therapy, counseling, or psychological treatment
  • psychology or psychiatry
  • medical care, diagnosis, or treatment
  • crisis intervention
  • an emergency service
  • legal, financial, or educational advice

Volunteers are student peer supporters. They are not licensed mental health professionals unless a specific volunteer explicitly states otherwise in a professional capacity outside of Mindscape. Nothing said during a Mindscape conversation should be interpreted as professional advice. You remain fully responsible for your own healthcare and life decisions. If you need professional care, please consult a licensed clinician.

3. Emergency Policy

Mindscape is not an emergency service. Volunteers cannot physically intervene and cannot contact emergency services on your behalf. If a situation appears to involve imminent danger, the platform may end the session and direct you toward appropriate emergency resources. Emergency numbers are always accessible through the in-session Emergency button and on the Safety & Trust page. In an emergency in the United States or Puerto Rico, call 911, or dial 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

4. Eligibility and Age Requirement

You must be at least 12 years old to use Mindscape and enrolled as a student (middle school, high school, or university). Where local law requires parental or guardian consent for minors, you are responsible for obtaining it. Mindscape may restrict or remove accounts that do not meet these requirements.

5. Account Creation and Consent

To create an account you must confirm that you meet the eligibility requirements and that you have read and accept these Terms, the Privacy Policy, and the Community Guidelines. You must also acknowledge that Mindscape provides peer support only and is not a substitute for professional care. Your acceptance is recorded with a timestamp for compliance purposes.

6. User Responsibilities

By using Mindscape you agree to:

  • provide truthful registration information
  • keep your account credentials secure and not share your account
  • treat other users respectfully at all times
  • report serious safety concerns through in-app tools
  • follow the Community Guidelines
  • not use Mindscape for any illegal, harmful, or exploitative purpose

7. Confidentiality and Its Limits

Conversations on Mindscape are intended to remain confidential between the participants. Confidentiality may be limited when:

  • there is a credible threat of serious harm to yourself or others
  • there is suspected abuse, particularly involving minors
  • we are required to comply with a valid legal obligation
  • we must investigate reports, appeals, or platform safety concerns

In these cases we may review session metadata, related reports, and volunteer notes, and may contact appropriate authorities or trusted adults.

8. Moderation, Suspensions, and Appeals

We may warn, temporarily suspend, or permanently remove accounts that violate these Terms or the Community Guidelines. You may appeal a moderation decision through your account. Appeals are reviewed by a human moderator.

9. Limitation of Liability

Mindscape is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law. Mindscape does not guarantee that:

  • any conversation will improve your situation or wellbeing
  • the platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of technical failures
  • matches, availability, or session quality will meet any specific expectation

Volunteers act independently as peer supporters. Nothing in these Terms creates a doctor–patient, therapist–patient, attorney–client, or other professional relationship between you and Mindscape or any volunteer.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Mindscape and its volunteers are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform. Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including the laws of the United States and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

10. Intellectual Property

The Mindscape name, brand, interface, and content are owned by the Mindscape project and its contributors. You may not copy, resell, or misrepresent the platform.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and applicable United States federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts located in Puerto Rico, unless applicable consumer protection law provides otherwise.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms as the platform evolves. The "Last updated" date and version above will change when we do. Continued use of Mindscape after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
